5.0 out of 5 stars Almost unbelievable improvement to my vinyl

In the past, I’ve only ever used record cleaning pads and spray. It never really did much. The Vinyl Vac is different. It produces an incredible aural improvement of my records from very dirty to lightly grimy. Surface noise is almost completely eliminated. The sound is clearer, sometimes breathtakingly so. I wasn’t expecting this!

I made the turntable system that is shown on the Vinyl Vac webpage. It works great. It’s a somewhat time consuming affair, but the result is completely, absolutely worth it. I only wish I had bought a Vinyl Vac years ago.

I had a wet/dry vacuum in the garage gathering dust. With a large collection of vinyl, I thought this was a reasonable price to vacuum clean my records. It works great and easy to use! Many records I wouldn't play due to surface noise are dramatically improved. Definitely recommended!

Bought this on a whim because I wasn't getting all the dirt/noise out of albums. Even after using brushes with liquid cleaner, I still had dust noise and could see it with a magnifying glass. I have a good cartridge that should pick up less dust noise due the stylus type/size but was still getting annoying pops due to dust. I've used the wet roller machines which were OK for extremely dirty albums you might find at a rummage sale or thrift shop, but it didn't get the small stuff out of the grooves. I used compressed air that seemed to work pretty well but that caused static build up. This works great. Suction is so good that it will lift the record off the platter. Granted I have never used one of those $500 self contained vacuum cleaning machines so I can't compare it to that, but this does work really well.

I decided I didn’t want to spend $400-500 on a record cleaning machine like an Okki Nikki even though I am an avid record collector and audiophile. I spent some $$ on my record player so I don’t want to play dirty records and ruin my stylus. For $30 I thought I would give this a try. I already had a small shop vac and purchased an electric powered “lazy Susan” from someone named “Biffy” on eBay. See pics for what the item looks like. It works great with the Vinyl Vac!
The Vinyl Vac hooks right up to your shop back and it’s super easy to use. It has a lot of suction and I usually let the record spin twice one way and then twice the other and it is pretty much completely dry. The sound quality is a lot better after using this item. If your records are scratched then there’s only so much you can do but for those swap meet find records that are really dusty and dirty or have fingerprints all over them this device is a lifesaver. I personally use a small amount of Turgeon tall with distilled water to clean my records and then do a distilled water rinse and then use Vinyl Vac. I’m thrilled! I’ve tried many other record cleaning solutions and the lint roller style cleaner and this is by far the easiest to use and the best way to get your records really clean. The device does not damage your records. The pads are very soft. See my video for how I use it. If it’s not working here, go to YouTube and search for Vinyl Vac Review.
And it definitely needs to be noted that this company has amazing customer service! I have emailed them twice about replacement parts and they have literally responded in a matter of minutes. When you need to buy replacement pads they are not expensive and they will include a few freebies. Super nice people and a great product! This record collector is done searching for a record cleaner. And no, I was not paid or offered anything for this review!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best manual cleaning system/method out there
September 9, 2019
Without spending hundreds or even thousands for a powered record cleaning system, this is the way to go. I had been using the “yellow tub” system, but found that the pads were actually scratching/marring the vinyl when inserting/removing and you need some type of drying system anyway. So I got this, gathered the parts and set up my cleaning and vacuuming station using a lazy susan. Although I got Ron’s cleaning solution recipe, I’ve just been using what he sells and have found it to be extremely satisfactory. I think overall it takes about the same amount of time as the “yellow tub”, but I feel the cleaning is superior and I really think the bristles of the paint pad are more effective at getting into the grooves without damage. After cleaning, rinsing and vacuuming per the instructions, your vinyl record is shiny like new. Obviously it won’t heal scratches, but if there is dust and grime down in the grooves, this method is very effective at deep cleaning and clearing up background hiss from those dirty grooves.

My only suggestion for improvement would be to include two o-rings so the wand is more stable on the wet/dry vac hose nozzle.

If you’re into vinyl records, get this system along with some good quality static-free inner and outer sleeves. As soon as you get a new (or especially used) album, clean it even before listening to it and then store it in the new sleeve. Your records will last longer, your stylus will not wear as quickly and your ears will thank you.

I've tried several methods for cleaning with mediocre success... Until I used this! I tried it on a known "problem child" which had been cleaned several times by different methods with no appreciable results. The sound after using vinylvac was unbelievable. I'm a huge fan now. The only concern is that it's a little unwieldy to use at first and I recommend not using it on your primary turntable. I have one that doesn't work anymore that I used. This will probably be the only way I clean records now.

5 out of 5 stars stars The best, affordable way to clean records.

There are countless ways to clean records with prices ranging from single dollars to tens of thousands of dollars - it really is ridiculous how far some of us will go for clean records and at some point we have to ask ourselves if it's worth the time and money.

Well, this is worth both, without question. Is it the best, easiest or most effective way to clean records? Nope. But is it good enough for the majority of people? Absolutely.

Get yourself an old junk turntable, cheap slip mat, paint edger, cleaning fluid of your choice and small wet-dry shop vac - all for around $100, which is half the price of the lowest-cost vacuum-based RCM on the market. You won't be sorry. Plus, you can use the shop vac for other things - you can't do that with a standard machine - it'll only clean records!

Of course, that's why you're looking at this product. So suffice to say, it works very well with a bit of finesse and the right additional tools. I'm using it with a 2.5 gallon Armorall wet/dry vac which has a hose the perfect size for just the front wand portion (it comes in three parts for fitting it to various sizes of hose), and I don't even need the washer. I did have to sand the back end of the wand first to get it to fit but it's super snug and works great with no air leakage.

First I clean my record with the wonderful Spin-Clean and then while it is still wet transfer it to a used Crosley to use as a platter and vac clean. I think this method makes the best use of each product. (Actually all three) The Spin-Clean cleans inside the grooves and it's fluid has a surfactant to pull the dirt out and to the bottom of the water well. Then the Vinyl Vac pulls any remaining water and grim out. These two products should really be bundled together.

Ok, I made my research, read the reviews and concluded that this might be one of those mini DIY projects for me. At first, this product seems easy to DIY. After all it’s just a crevice tool with a slit on it and a velvet strip, right? Wrong. This is a complete cleaning solution! A well made, high quality product along with my favorite video on VinylVac’s website explaining every detail make this a holistic cleaning process. It’s not only me, but also my vinyl records tell the same whenever they “speak” :-) A fun and easy way to clean records. Saves time, protects your fingers from getting cut if you were to DIY and lets you focus on more important projects. And all that with a very reasonably priced, premium product. Made me a very happy customer and made my records new family stars :-)

The vinyl vac is excellent. I was a skeptic. But I gave it a try and I am very pleased with the results. It works as advertised perfectly.
I recommend finding a broken turntable (or one you don’t care about) to use for cleaning. I found one for $5 at a thrift store. It’s much easier than the lazy susan method (I tried and failed). You don’t want to risk getting your main turntable wet.
I will suggest you do research on which cleaning fluid to use with it. VinylVac sells some. I used the London Jazz Collector’s formula to the letter. Google it. I highly recommend it. It’s cheap and easy to make.
Drop some on and spread it around evenly on your record. Then suck it up with the vinyl vac.

Before purchasing this I had hand cleaned well over 100 records using a pain edger, isopropyl alcohol/distilled water solution, and wiped them down with both a microfiber cloth/pad. This helped to an extent, but I quickly found that no record is clean without being vacuumed. PERIOD, as crackling remained. When I opted to use one of these after each wet clean, the difference was huge. Any crackling remaining is almost strictly from scratches. If the records are not seriously scratched, they are virtually silent now (no crackling). Something like this is essential if you actual want clean records that barely crackle or pop at all. this is a cheap but effective solution. Thank you!

I just got rid of the 5.1 home theater receiver that I've struggled to get a proper stereo image out of for the last 20 years and replaced it with a nice simple stereo power amp that matches the nice front speakers I already had. Instant happiness and the catalyst that got me digging into my long dormant vinyl collection. That led to upgrading the cartridge on the turntable. That led to replacing my 35 year old turntable with a nice new one. And that led to me getting the Vinyl Vac. I also got the cheapest lp washer (the Studebaker), a couple gallons of distilled water, an $11 Lazy Susan, a $15 rubber turntable mat for the Lazy Susan, and the Stanley 1.5 mini wet/dry vac (not on Amazon; found it elsewhere refurbished for $24.95) which is a PERFECT match for the VV. Drilled a hole in the middle of the Lazy Susan using the hole in the rubber turntable mat as a size guide and made a spindle for it with a cut off and whittled down #2 pencil plus a drop of Elmers. All together the various items for my "album salon" came to about $110. (Compare to any machine with a vacuum. Those start at around $700). Combined, this is a really great album cleaning system but the kernel of the system, what really makes it happen, is the Vinyl Vac. Could you fashion one yourself somehow? You bet, but I'm happy to have ordered this and would do it again. As I dig out my old treasures, they're all going through the salon for a spruce up before getting to play again and they're all curling my toes. Vinyl totally rules.
I give each lp about a dozen spins in each direction in the Studebaker. The lp then gets dropped dripping wet right on the rubber mat on the Lazy Susan. I vacuum both sides twice which leaves almost no traces of water. A short dab with a microfiber cloth and it's off to the real turntable. I hit it with the anti static tool first, set it spinning and...magic. Fantastic, and the Vinyl Vac is the key that makes it happen. It was well thought out too as all the little extras are very useful as well. Put. me in the happy camper camp.

This is a very cool widget! Broke out the turntable after about 30 years, my records were dirty to destroyed by flood. I had to do something if I wanted to listen to any of them. I took very good care of them when I used them last and it broke my heart to see the condition some were in.
I did my homework and chose this device, the Vinyl Vac. I love the concept and the diy aspect of it. I could have easily built one myself out of parts in my shop but after going over the details he laid out for building the whole cleaning system I figured the guy earned his $35.00!
I built the rig as close as I could to his original design. It works very well. The performance of the Vinyl Vac was excellent, I used it with the fluid sold by them. A lot of the records were covered in mold and mildew along with stuck bits of liner. Careful pre washing allowed me to use the Vinyl Vac to finish the job. Most of them came out good, some better than others but all listenable. When I used the Vinyl Vac on some new records and the ones in my collection that were in good shape all I can say is wow! Where was this widget 30 years ago!
Take your time, follow the instructions and build the turntable/lazy susan, it’s worth the work. You will be very happy with your records. My wife wants to go thrift shop treasure hunting now!

I must admit...When I first heard of the Vinyl-Vac, to say I was skeptical would be an understatement. Then, I did the research (So you don't have to!) I scoured the web for reviews, both written and video. Except for the elitist, that can afford 5,000 USD for a cleaning system, this device is universally loved.
There is a bit of 'Do it Yourself' foot work that you have to do, first. No big deal, believe me...If it's not electronic, I haven't a clue. On the company's website is a tutorial video.
Don't skip any parts. I thought I could use it without the 4" flush plug and gasket. Then, I ruined a label. Lesson 1.
The first LP that I used was a 1977 copy of Steely Dan - 'Aja' Man, it was a MESS! But, there was no physical damage. It takes me around 10 minutes, start to finish, to clean one album. I placed Aja on my turntable. BAM!
Total aural bliss. When I tested this on my 'old' turntable, this album sounded like a campfire. This has to be a fluke, I thought.
Nope...Every piece of vinyl, as long as there was no physical damage, was brought back to a sonic glory I thought impossible. The Vinyl-Vac puts crate diving into a new dimension, now! Just today, I bought 3 copies of Al DiMeola albums. I've cleaned one and played it. Oh my...Success again.
Who needs re-masters and re-presses when you have a Vinyl-Vac? 3 thumbs up! HIGHLY recommended!

I've been using Ron's Vinyl Vac for two years with great success. I built my system using the Vinyl Vac paired with a $20 wet shop vac, Ron's cleaning solution, a good fine hair LP cleaning brush and a very cheap non-working turntable I picked up for $5 on e-bay. There are other reviews here detailing the cleaning process. One thing I want to stress is doing a rinse and vac with distilled water as a last step. I am working through digitizing hundreds of classical records, some going back to the late 1940's. This cleaning system cost me less than $80, is incredibly effective and worth thousands!

Really like the Vinyl Vac. It picks up any residue left behind by the Spin Clean. Somewhat easy to use, just attach to the hose of your vacuum. You will probably want to get an old turntable to use for the Vinyl Vac. You certainly do NOT want to run the turntable while you are using the Vinyl Vac. The suction is too great and will slow the turntable down and put too much load on the motor. (you will burn your motor out).
Records cleaned with the Vinyl Vac are turning out in the VG+ to pristine category. I totally recommend the Vinyl Vac as the last step in your cleaning process.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS WITH THE LAZY SUSAN/YOUTUBE TUTORIAL FTW
Verified Purchase
I'm an independant record reseller as well as (of course) a collector. I switched to this from one of the cleaners where you spin the record around in water (which gets dirty quick, by the way). I switched because of the dry time. I had 4 drying racks going. I read and found that through either this, or a more expensive machine, vacuuming off the nastiness is the way to go. I chose this because it seemed best "bang for your buck"
What a great purchase. The owner of the company recommends a specific inexpensive wet/dry vac, but I am partial to the Buckethead from Home Depot and one of their orange 5 gallon buckets. It was easy to hook up.
Next, and this is the most important thing, YOUTUBE "VINYL VAC LAZY SUSAN", go to ikea, get the $10 Lazy susan (as well as the paint edger and foam brush from HD). Actually follow the instructions on youtube, and clean records that way, and I'm telling ya, THATS THE WAY TO CLEAN RECORDS!
So I mentioned I'm a reseller. I clean A LOT of records. This does a better job than the spin-in-the-kinda-clean water yellow thingy, and it has the record clean, dry, ready to resleeve (sometime a tiny micro cloth wipe off of an edge) or play quicker than I could imagine any other decent cleaning method accomplishing. Wash, rinse, vinyl-vac it off, maybe make sure theres no drops here or there, and you're good to go!
And of course, this is pretty much what the expensive vacuum machines do, but I think you put the record in and it spins for you. Honestly, at this point I'll take the speed/efficiency with the personal control of the cleaning/drying process that the Vinyl Vac/Lazy Susan cleaning method offers over any option.

One of the best items on the market!

If you have some time, an old turntable (or lazy susan) a wet-dry vac (you can get one here for $30) and some dusty records, then vinyl vac is your best friend. If you're like me, you've stared at those incredible vacuum vinyl cleaners that run close to $500. Look no further.

Best recommendations for usage

-Use an old turntable (belt disconnected) or a lazy susan
- I connect vinyl vac to your shop vac
- place on top of vinyl and turn on vac
- manually spin record (touch the outside)
- Pick a spot on the vinyl and pass it 3 times
- turn off shop vac
- clean with solution and brush
- Repeat the Vinyl Vac process
- Go over with anti static brush/gun (very important)

With this process your records will last 50-100 plays without need for re-clean. This product can cause a little static buildup so I recommend a nice pass with an anti static brush.

It works so well though.

Compared to a VPI - HW-17?

My friend who owns a VPI - HW-17 record cleaner moved to California - Wwaahh-Ricky! I looked at many options and thought okay for the price I'll try it. I already owned a small portable wet/dry vac. I'm not messy so I'm carefully cleaning my records on my Stanton turntable. I actually like the hand turning - it gives me more control. The Vinyl-Vac 33 was easy to use after a couple of tries. I wash with my SpinClean, gently wipe mostly dry and finish with theVinyl-Vac 33. Very comparable to the $1000+++ options.

What's not to love!

Prior to owning the Vinyl Vac I used a process that relied on micro fiber cloths removing the cleaner and water during cleanings. Although the album looked amazing with all its black vinyl luster, there would still be residual clicks and pops from debris still present in the grooves. Vinyl Vac seems to do a way better job of removing the debris from within the grooves. Here's the kicker... You don't have to pay $400 - $500 for a fancy vacuum cleaning device. $29.99 and a $20 1.5 HP shop vac from Walmart, $10 Lazy Suzan and about $8 in hardware and you have a complete cleaning setup that will do just as good a job. As seen in the attached pic. Kudo's to the makers of the Vinyl Vac!

I am an old timer when it comes to vinyl. I've seen many products come and go, and claim to be this or that. The Vinyl Vac is one of those amazing products that absolutely does the job, does it with excellence, easy to use and is unbelievably affordable! I COULD'NT BE HAPPIER! I like to buy used records. My Goodwill finds look and sound fabulous after using Vinyl Vac. Of course, you have to have a record that hasn't been run over by a truck, but if you have decent source material, this thing will do amazing things for your LP. This is a no-brainer. BUY IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!

Works Great!

I bought this after researching the best methods for cleaning vinyl records. The consensus seems to be the vacuum method, which makes sense. I wasn't, however, ready to spend several hundred bucks on a record vacuum machine. As it turns out, I didn't need to. The Vinyl Vac 33 works great with a $20 wet vac from home depot. I also used it with my large shop vac and it worked but the hose connection was more complicated (using reducer fittings) and the larger hose made operation more awkward. Using a vac with 1 1/4" hose is the best option. I used an old turntable to hold the records while cleaning and the process was very easy. Cleaned about 100 records in a weekend, and the before/after sound quality was a huge difference. This thing is a tremendous value for the money.

This thing SUCKS !! In a good way :)
BySNRS on August 27, 2018

I wasn't really expecting much out of this and figured for 30 bucks, it's worth a shot. But I was impressed by what it did for my records.

First some Background:
I was frustrated after using a mild cleaning solution (combo of Jet Dry+ Distilled Water + Isopropyl Alcohol) to clean my records. While the solution and method was cost effective, it would leave soap residue behind that would get picked up by the stylus upon first play. There was so much gunk on the stylus after playing one track that clearly made this a non sustainable method. I started researching and everyone pointed to a vacuum method as the only sure shot way to remove residue. Makes complete sense but as with most things in the world of vinly records, the recommended products cost a bomb. I was not willing to pay more for a cleaning apparatus, than the price of my LP player!

Solution:
Enter the Vinyl Vac. I came across the device thru Michael Fremer's YouTube video (Stereophile channel) that reviewed this briefly. Ordered it and first tried it with my WetVac that was too strong. I then started using my Dyson which is not a wet vac but I figured the amount of minimal moisture left on the record, is negligible, to cause any harm. It took a few attempts to get the hang of it but now that I have, its amazing. I spent a disproportionate portion of my weekend cleaning records from 20 years back that I hadn't touched since purchase :) The before/after results are dramatic!

In the world of audiophile gimmickry where some things are questionable / snake oil. and others require you to take out a second mortgage, its nice to see a pragmatic solution to a common problem at a good price point. We need more like this!!

A few minuses /constructive criticism -
- The attachment did not snuggly fit my vacuum hose. Bot the Wetvac or the Dyson which tells me its not a standard fit. But given the air pressure, it would not fall off. Still something that makes it a little unwieldy.
- The felt strips are a nice touch and is what prevents the records from scratching. I just noticed they attracted dust and debris and was not easy to remove.

Neither "con" mentioned above would prevent me from using this in the future and does not affect the performance of the product in any way.

As a vinyl enthusiast I’ve spent more time than I’d care to admit looking at $1k+ record cleaning machines. I’m someone who isn’t easily sucked into the hype and I often find myself saying “I can build that or something similar for 10% of what they want.” After seeing examples like this product I took a trip to my local home improvement store and collected all the parts (that I could find) and I have to say this product is more affordable, very well thought out and has a few extra bits that make it worth the buy. It functions exactly as one would hope. So save yourself the headache and get the more than fairly priced VinylVac to clean your vinyl and enjoy. They recommend a cheap lazy Susan (available on Amazon) to place your records on while cleaning and I have done so and in combination with the VV it’s an ideal cleaning solution!

Great product! Great for anyone just getting into a vacuum system, or anyone who doesn't want to spend hundreds on an RCM. I have not owned an RCM, so I can't directly compare, but I've bought a lot of RCM-cleaned records, and have been using this for a year, and feel like I'm getting very similar results. I've cleaned hundreds of records, and it's made a huge difference in sound quality, and definitely saved wear on my stylus! Ron is very helpful and extremely responsive as well. Highly recommend!

The Missing Piece!

I was hopeful based on the reviews that the Vinyl Vac would be just what I was looking for to complete my record cleaning process, and boy did it deliever! I’ve been using the Spin Clean, but hated that I live in a house with dogs and it’s nearly impossible to keep those little drying cloths they provide clean or lint free, and I was noticing some pretty bad pops and clicks after cleaning. Enter the Vinyl Vac. With my very first cleaning the record looked absolutely pristine, and sounded immaculate. Not a pop or click to be heard whatsoever. The price is fantastic too considering how well this thing works and compared to the price of a RCM that easily run $500. I can finally say that I’m 100% happy with my record cleaning routine and I can’t say enough good things about the Vinly Vac. If you’re on the fence I would most definitely say give this thing a try and you won’t be disappointed.

Best money I have spent in a while! The Vinyl Vac worked even better than I expected. I just popped in the larger of the two air flow restrictors and on my first try it sucked all the water off of my album in a single pass. It worked better and more easily than I expected. BTW, I got a cheap wet vac from a big orange box store which is designed to sit on a 5 gallon bucket. The hose was exactly the right size to work with the VV33.

I started collecting used records about 3 years ago and I’ve battled crackly pops and static ever since. Anti static brush, cleaning fluids and micro suede cloth, never get rid of it all and it was always frustrating for me especially since I like buying Jazz and classical music as well as rock. Nothing is worse than all of the quiet parts of my classical LPs just popping away! The vinyl vac changed all of this recently. I combine it with my other cleaning methods and now I’m very happy with how much “quieter” my old records sound! I highly recommend this magic wand for your vinyl cleaning ritual.

Everyone should have this
By Jon Dough on September 29, 2017

This is about the best value you can get for your money if you listen to vinyl. Cleaning results are directly proportional to the amount of time spent and if you take 4 or 5 minutes per record, you will end up with a near perfect result. Wash a record all you like but as with anything, the removal of what was washed off is the most critical step or it just returns to where it started. This removes all traces of contamination after you have lifted it off with the cleaner solution recipe included.

I've cleaned numerous records now that were in excellent condition and looked perfect but had poor sound due to dust embedded in the grooves and once cleaned they sound like brand new. This is the best money I've spent, far and away the biggest improvement in sound you will get.

I recently put together a few vintage systems, Marantz and Klipch circa 1970 and I thought "hey, just missing a turntable" so I went out bought two turntables, repaired them and threw some old classic rock LP's I had from the 70's, lots of pops and ticks. I washed them with a solution and a microfiber pad, sounded better but not great. I read about "Vinyl Vac" and for the price I thought "hey, can't hurt" I washed the same vinyl I already washed but this time I sucked it dry with vinyl vac. MAN!! what a difference, not only were the pops and tics gone or at least very few and far between but the sound came alive. Those LP's were DIRTY, now they have new life. Don't hesitate on this one, this thing really works great!!

I love this thing, its not perfect but its so much better than all other cleaners I have used in the past. I used it to clean a Beethoven 6th Record which was almost new but had lots of pops even though there are no visible scratches. I used this and got a 90% improvement. Its almost pop free now. It dose not fit on my Hoover Vac and the suction is so powerful I have to manually spin the record. It includes suction reducers but I want it as strong as I can get it. I noticed on some records it leaves what is sucked out of the grooves in a nice little neat pile which can be removed with some sticky tape, just be careful. Tried many other cleaning methods including wood glue and this is the best, if your on a budget like me

First, my Vinyl Vac was shipped almost immediately after purchase. This wasn't one of those phony baloney "shipped" notifications where a tracking number was generated and then the item hit the post office 7 days later; this was a legitimate drop-off at the shipper within hours of my purchase. The former makes my blood boil; the latter is a rare and much appreciated treat. Second, the package contained a note with both Ron's name and my name signed by hand. It feels good to purchase a product that is clearly a labor of love to the folks who make it. This is by far the best product that I have ever used to clean my records! I own a spin clean as well, and although it does a good job of cleaning the records, it does not remove the dirt and grime altogether. By combining the Vinyl Vac with a wet/dry vac I am able to completely remove the grime from my albums.
